Java's growth was not good as javascript's when looked at a short period of time.

Due to lot of politics in the Java world especially by IBM, Sun, BEA, Oracle, etc, it caused a lot hindrance in its growth.

Also java was selected as a development of choice at the enterprise level, whereas javascript with AJAX became the choice web 2.0 UI development. And also due to support by major industry heavyweights its growth was enormous. It is growing like anything.

Thanks for the unity in the tech world atleast for AJAX.
